How should I analyze the performance of the Company over time?

  • Sales of crop protection products are directly influenced by the agricultural seasons, weather and crop cycles in each of the various markets.
  • Therefore, the Company’s revenues and income are not evenly spread over the quarters of the year:
    • The agricultural seasons in the northern hemisphere (mainly the United States and Europe) take place in the first two quarters of the year and, accordingly, in these countries, the sales are usually highest in the first half of the year.
    • In the southern hemisphere (mainly Brazil and the rest of Latin America), most of the local sales are made in the second half of the year, except for Australia where most of the sales are made in April through July.
  • Therefore, investors are encouraged to compare the Company’s periodic performance with the parallel period in the prior year, rather than with the immediately previous period.
  • In addition, as a planting season may be advanced or delayed between the financial quarters due to the impact of weather events, investors are encouraged to analyze the Company’s performance over a longer period of time, to at least obtain a more complete picture over a full agricultural season.
